A Data Story of California's Educational Landscape
This project crafts a data story exploring the complex factors influencing California students' educational outcomes, including poverty and achievement gaps, to foster deeper understanding and conversation.
At A Glance
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) offers an ongoing look at what U.S. students know and can achieve across various subjects. In California, unfortunately, children consistently score significantly below the national average on these crucial assessments. Research unequivocally shows that students not reading at grade level by the end of third grade face a serious risk of not graduating high school. This data story is an empathetic exploration into the nuanced factors at play for California's students, examining the intricate connections between context, poverty, achievement gaps, enrollment trends, and life after graduation.

Challenge
I was tasked to transform a rich dataset into a compelling data story. This involved skillfully weaving together diverse chart types, incorporating interactive elements like transitions, tooltips, and filters, and most importantly, crafting a cohesive narrative that truly brings the data to life. The goal was to illuminate these critical educational trends in a way that fosters understanding and sparks meaningful conversation.
