A data story website that explores the context, poverty, achievement gaps, enrollment and life after graduation for California students.

At A Glance

Introduction

The NAEP is ongoing assessment of what U.S. students know and what they can do in different subjects. California’s children tend to score relatively poorly on these tests. The differences between California's children and children elsewhere in the country are statistically significant. Research has shown that children not reading at grade level by the end of third grade are at serious risk of never graduating from high school. This data story explores the context, poverty, achievement gaps, enrollment and life after graduation for California students.

Challenge

The assignment was to produce a data story using a rich data set. The requirements were to include four different chart types, have interactive elements such as transitions, tooltips, and filters. It was also important to create a narrative that held the story together.
